[ I'm relaying Judy's article to the NATIVE-L list (and to the gen.nativeam
conference on APC systems, where it originated), and a copy is going to
the NATCHAT list, which includes the full text of the original article,
in case anyone on that list wants to discuss it. Please continue the
discussion there. If anyone on NATIVE-L is not on NATCHAT who wants to
be, please send a "subscribe natchat Your Name" message to the address
LISTSERV@TAMVM1.TAMU.EDU (where "Your Name" is replaced by your full
given name - NOT your email address). IGC/APC subscribers (PeaceNet/
EcoNet/GreenNet/ Web/Pegasus, etc.) can access the discussion by means
of the alt.native conference if your system carries it. Otherwise, send
a subscribe message to the TAMVM1 address. --Gary ]

Again, I think too little awareness of this is a danger. The
Mohawks fought spectacularly well in this very trying confrontation.
The situation in Kahnawake has been bad for a long time now.
We saw how brutal and arbitrary both police and justice officials
were with respect to the situation last summer right out in the
open - in front of the international news media and in spite of
public criticism from other Canadians. Let's not forget what is
most certainly continuing in that community now, though less well
publicized. These are people who need support. And this is a
police force that could use some exposure.
