House Resolution 2032
Senate Resolution 550
We have just sent the following letter to our Congressmen and Senators, and
we urge that you do the same.

The letter:
The Honorable [Senator's or Congressman's name]
I urge you to reject [Senate Resolution 550] [House Resolution 2032], which
would designate the site of Wounded Knee, South Dakota, as a national
monument. As you are undoubtedly aware, Wounded Knee is of vital importance
to the Lakota Sioux people as the location of pivotal events in their history.
It is outrageous that Congress is seriously considering removing this site
from the tribal trust of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. I understand that
the land and mineral rights thereof would revert to the public domain, and
that no provision has been made for the relocation of six hundred (600)
Indians who would be displaced. If the objective is to memorialize the
massacre at Wounded Knee in 1890, would not a historical marker be
appropriate? To force these Indians from their land and homes would constitute
not just one more instance in a long list of injustices, but one of the worst.
Very truly yours,
W. Grosvenor Pollard, III
