TO Mr. Charles Blackburn, President, CEO
Maxus Energy Corporation
In the first place, we Huaorani people send you our greetings through the
Org. of Huaorani Nationalities of the Ecuadorian Amazon (ONHAE). We want to
communicate with you, and we are the only representatives of the Huaorani
people and no other person or organization has the right to speak in our
name.
The Huaorani indigenous communities have always fought for our lands, which
the government has still not given us, so for this reason we do not want
foreign companies to build roads, nor to damage the ecology-ecocultural. We
are the owners of these lands, for now and forever. Here is our culture,
our life, a our life, and we do not want you to enter our territory.
When we spoke with your representatives in Quito, we expressed our
opposition to the construction of the road. Now, we demand that you respect
our human rights.
In the Huaorani territory, there are still communities that have no contact
with whites. These groups are the Tagaeri and the Taromenane, and we want
them to live in peace as we do.
We are writing this letter to you and also to the world. Our position will
not change, no one can represent us, nor speak in the name of the Huaoranis
without our authorization.
Before, we wrote a letter to Conoco. they understood, and they left. Now,
we hope that you listen, understand and that you leave. We want not only
Huaorani territory to be respected, but also the other communities such as
those of the Yasuni.
Attentively,
Nanto Huamoni Coba, President ONHAE
Enqueri Nihua, Treasurer ONHAE
