I have an undergraduate student who is Seneca by birth but was adopted by a
Jewish couple and raised in Brooklyn. She is very much interested in
establishing contact with Seneca people and her heritage but she is very unsure
how to do it. The only thing she knows about her birth mother is that her
last name was Hill. She apparently has the support of her adoptive parents in
this effort. She has contacted the Seneca Nation in New York but she says that
they would not return her calls. She interpreted this as a rebuff to her
efforts but I have suggested to her it is more likely inefficiency.
I would welcome any suggestions that someone could make on who she might
contact or how she might proceed. I fear that she is too shy to just drive out
to Salamanca and start knocking on doors. Please reply to
