The First Nations and the Canadian Governement

I'm working on a paper exploring the some of the issues surrounding the
changing relationship between the Canadian government and Canadian native
populations. I was wondering if people could point me towards some
information. I was wondering if anybody could suggest any books, articles,
groups, mailing lists, or people who I could contact to discuss these
issues. Or of course people can respond to me themselves.

I am specifically interested in land claims, land use, political power, and
self-government. Some of the questions I have about relations between the
Federal government and native groups are:

(1) What do people think the proposed constitutional changes will actually
mean to native communities?

(2) What are the opinions of various native groups on the value of the
proposed constitutional changes?

(3) How do the constitutional changes impact land-use on reserves or land
claimed by groups? Is there going to be any kind of moratorium on
development (logging, dams, etc.) until issues are resolved?

(4) How does the new constitutional deal affect the balance of power
between native governments and provincial/territorial governments?

Thanks,
Garry Peterson
