FIGHTING FUNDS REQUIRED!

SPECIAL OFFER.

It is looking as though some of the important issues surrounding
the Mabo decision will be worked through in connection with
Warumungu people who live near Tennant Creek. I have been
involved in this struggle since 1980.

Funds are required for the recognition and protection of the
rights of these First People. My present unemployment benefit does
not stretch very far.

Two levels of funding are required. The first level is the small
change needed for me to pay for postage, phone and fax to lobby
politicians to recognise and protect the rights of the First
People involved. The second level is to empower Warumungu
authorities to engage the services they require to conduct level
dialogue and negotitiations - without duress and bureaucratic
misrepresentation - with the Government. At present the people's
voice is marginalised by the powerful forces of other interests
which claim to represent them.

I propose to use any initial funding to work towards the second
level objective.

The Warumungu Defence Fund was founded in 1983 when - in
solidarity - we organised, despite bureaucratic opposition, a
memorable bus trip of First People to attend a High Court hearing
in Canberra of part of the Warumungu land claim. Could the next
trip be to the International Court of Justice?

Anyone wishing to make a contribution to the Warumungu Defence
Fund can do so by either mailing it care of PO Box 257, Thirroul,
NSW 2515 or by paying it directly into the Warumungu Defence Fund,
Access Account No 015 889 5781 91579, ANZ Bank, Paterson Street,
Tennant Creek, Northern Territory 0860. Contributions are not tax
deductable. LETS units (Interlets) also warmly received.

SPECIAL OFFER. Contributions of $25 or more can receive a computer
disc version of my draft manuscript "Wrong Way Land Claim - Part
One". Contributions of $50 or over can receive a paper version
(some hundred double sided pages). This is my major piece of work
resulting from my working relationship with First People, and I
think that it will help people to make sense out of what is going
on. I have posted, as a sample, Chapter One as Response One to
this topic. This work will not be otherwise published for ages.

In solidarity,

Bruce Reyburn.
