In response to the Innu removing their hydro meters and thus refusing
to pay for electricity produced from waters flooding their land NFLD
premier Clyde Wells has refused to continue with any discussion over
land claims.

A glimpse at the conditions under which resettled Innu live was
seen on CBC's Newsworld the other evening. One community was placed
by the government on an island at Davis Inlet, Labrador, isolated
from their traditional hunting grounds. There's no water or sewers
the place is solid rock. Five young children killed in a tragic house
fire there last year had to be buried on the other side of the Inlet
where they could dig graves.
