I have a Native American friend here in Berlin, Germany, who
has been living here for at least 20 years. She recently
told me that it was _forbidden_ in North Carolina for
Native Americans/American Indians _to marry_. She insisted
it was like this, that they were generally forbidden "to marry",
not just "to marry according to a traditional ritual".
(You see, I hardly believed her.) Is this true? If so, what
legal justification exists for it? If not, what may be
the reality behind this rumour?
