11/24/92 -- Last evening I had the wonderful opportunity to be at
a performance presentation of The Kahurangi Maori Dance Theatre of
New Zealand. The Oneida people just outside Green Bay, Wisconsin
had the troupe in for appearances at their school and an evening
public performance. They have been and will continue to be
appearing with "their Maori works [which] focus on bringing to
life the traditional songs and dances of their people in a way
that reveals the 'ihi' or life force of the Maori culture," for
artist-in-schools programs, concerts, festival performances and
residencies in the US during the 1992-95, seasons. They are
handled through Bess Pruitt & Associates, Inc., Artists'
Management, 819 East 168th Street, Bronx, NY 10459. (718-589-
0400; FAX: 718-617-4551.
The above is informational; I have no connection with the
group or the management agency. It is simply that they are an
exciting group, and this was for me a beautiful cross cultural
experience. I'd like to see others have the opportunity. Watch
for them; arrange for them if that is a possibility. They are
friendly, informative, fun AND VERY GOOD AT WHAT THEY DO!
-Peace, Jack :-)
