I second the motion for Indiana U. I'm in my second year of grad school
in anthropology. They have brought in a couple of other scholars you should
know about...David Williams who teaches Federal Indian Law just joined the
law faculty...Cornell's loss! Also, Loretta Fowler who does ethnohistory of
Plains groups. Doug Parks is a linguist specializing in American Indian
languages. Ray DeMallie (anthropology, ethnohistory) and Doug Parks are
at the American Indian Studies Research Institute here on campus. You
might write directly to DeMallie since the Institute offers a fellowship.
Indiana is home to the Mathers Museum of Anthropology, the Glenn Black
Lab which contains the archives from the Great Lakes Indian Claims Commission,
and the Lilly Library. Polly Grimshaw, the librarian for anthropology,
folklore, and women's studies is a great help. David Edmunds in the history
department specializes in American Indian history.
If you come to town to check it out, give me a call and I'll give you the
tour!
Good luck!
Paula
