An exploratory oil well is proposed to be developed on the
territory of the Miccosukee (Native Americans) in Broward County
(near Ft. Lauderdale), Florida.
>From my scant knowledge of this situation, some of the Miccosukee
leaders want this well as it will bring funds into the territory.
However, I admit my knowledge is extremely sparse. I picked up
that information from a newspaper interview in a Florida newspaper
months ago.
If you are an "interested party" you may obtain a copy of the Draft
Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the referenced proposal
(to be completed in the near future) by requesting it before
January 6. The Statement is 625 pages. A 25 page summary may be
requested, as an alternative.
