1. In the middle of November the Brazilian Embassy in Bonn made
an enquiry on NGO-involvement in the Amazone region.
Quote of the letter, which was signed by a person with a
military titel:
< It is wellknown that the Indian tribes in Brazil, especially
< the ones living along the XINGU river and in other regions of
< the Amazone, are exposed to various forms of exploitation which
< endanger their survival. The Brazilian government plans efforts
< to ensure the survival of the Indians and thinks that all
< persons working in the area can help to do so.
<
< Therefore we ask you to answer the following questions:
< a) Which German organisations are working in the area?
< b) Kind and extent of the work?
< c) With which tribes do the organisations have contact?
< d) In which specific areas are the German organisations working?
< e) Please give a list with names and personal data of the
< persons working in the Amazone region.

Q1: Do you have similar experiences in your countries?
Q2: What is the purpose of this initiative?

2. Organizing the German part of the landrights campaign AIRASOL
(Roraima), we received the news that the anti-Indian forces are
getting organized. We have some newspaper-clippings but no
detailed back-ground information. It seems that garimpeiros in
collaboration with military and land-owners plan a demonstration
in Roraima around January 15th.

Q3: Who is following the development and does have good, reliable
and fast sources of information in Boa Vista and could help
out?
Q4: Which groups are interested and do have some resources to
collaborate the next months on this issue?
Q5: Which groups are interested in the AIRASOL-campaign and would
like to have more information on that?

3. Getting more and more confused with the International Year of
the World's Indigenous People - or more concrete - with what the
NGO-community in Europe and in America is doing, we're posting the
following questions:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Q6: Is there a NGO-structure (something outside the UN-structure)
which is coordinating the various efforts?
Q7: Is there an (inter-)national schedule available that gives
an overview on dates and events during the year?
Q8: Is your organisation doing anything on this issue?
Q9: Do you know which organisations in your country are
doing anything (could you please pass on their adresses)?
Q10: Are there any NGO-focal-points in different countries
which do have more information on what's going on?

We hope to hear from you
