The statement appears in the final paragraph of an article by Audrey
Shenandoah entitled "Women: Sustainers of Life." The article appeared
in TURTLE QUARTERLY, the Summer 1990 issue, beginning at page 5. The
quote is on page 10. The article is accompanied by photography by
Brian Kurtis. It is an excellent source of information about women in
traditional and contemporary Hodenosaunee society.
