Wounded Knee Occupation
20th Anniversary
Commemoration & Conference
February 26-28, 1993
Twenty years ago, the American Indian Movement occupied federal
buildings at Wounded Knee. This action marked a new phase in
resistance to the genocide of native Americans. It also provoked
a terrorist response orchestrated by the United States government
rarely matched in recent American history.
Hundreds of people participated in or supported the action.
Twenty years later, participants and supporters are gathering
again to commemorate the event and to review its implications for
today's movement.
