Note that Rain Bear is my wife, Medicine Woman and soon-to-be-ordained
Shaman of the 12 tribes of the Eastern Delaware Nations.
*****
We just discovered via the newspaper that there has been a local
archeological dig (University of Delaware, I think) quietly progressing for
over a year. They have unearthed an entire villiage, including some
artifacts and remains of considerable religious activity. According to the
article, some of the artifacts will be turned over to the golf club that is
being built over top of the sight. "Small amounts" of human remains are to
be turned over to someone. The Museum Commission says it's a "significant
find" but doesn't consider the site worth saving. The site is about two
acres. Rain Bear is livid! We're going to the dig tonight to photograph
it and Rain Bear will do the pipe. Several folks in the Eastern Delaware
Nations have already been notified. The villiage supposedly was that of
the "Shenks Ferry" tribe, later assimilated by the Susquehannock. Those
are the ancesters of the Eastern Deleware Nation out there at the dig, and
the stuff is going to fly! I fully expect my wife (Rain Bear) to be
arrested before the week is over.
In the meantime, if you know of any contacts, resources, or organizations
that can give us some guidance on how to proceed, (or should know about
this immediately) we'd sure appreciate it. Keep in mind that it's our
understanding that the dig is complete and work on the golf club is going
to proceed!
Thank you for any input.
