I have read 2 great books about Navajo code talkers. It might not be up your
alley but they are really interesting. I especially enjoyed them because of
the sense of pride it gave the men due to the unique contribution they made
based on the use of their own language. Navajo saved MANY lives during the war
because the Europeans could not figure it out. It is wonderful to read about.
The 2 I read were: The Navajo Code Talkers by Doris Atkinson Paul (great
photographic portraits of the soldiers!) and Warriors : Navajo Code Talkers by
Kenji Kawano. Many Anishnabeg in this area have distinguished themselves in
the Armed Forces through their bravery and discipline yet I find something so
stirring about this uniquely Indian MAJOR contribution to the war effort.
Makes the hair stand up on my arms just writing about it. Good luck finding
other sources ; they are out there.
