Suggest you start first with the Ruth Landis classic text
Ojibwa Religion and the Midewiwin (1968) if you've not already
read it before you home in on sweat lodge use. As for readings
on native sprirituality...there's no lack of material. You can
get a copy of the bibliography Mark Ruml prepared for the
religious studies department's research center through
listserv@uottawa with the command line get amerind biblio
Be forewarned: it's a lengthy document with a bit of annotation but
not organized with subject headings.
You may find some things of use in my dissertation bibliography (which
does have subject headings) concerning Amerindian beliefs particularly
as they influence contemporary visual artists and their regard for
the land. That's also available through
listserv@uottawa with the command line get shaman-1 biblio
NB: that's a "one" not an "el".
best wishes,
