Yanomami Chief empowers Amanaka'a in NYC

Yanomami Shaman and Chief Davi Yanomami visited New York City on
May 3-9, 1993 for Amazon Week IV. The week was a series of cultural
and educational events where native leaders presented their proposals
to stop deforestation and save their native cultures.

Amanaka'a' Amazon Network organized the Week as part of an on-going
effort to serve as a liaison for indigenous peoples of the Amazon
Rainforest.

Davi Yanomami has empowered Amanaka'a to help him in 2 ways:

Davi has asked Amanaka'a to "make alot of noise". The goal here
is to pressure the Brazilian Government to take action to expel
the 11,000 gold miners that have invaded the Yanomami Territory.

Davi has also asked Amanaka'a for assistance in raising funds to
staff a health clinic.

Amanaka'a has formed a team of volunteers to develop and implement
strategies for fulfilling the Yanomami requests. If you would like to
