*Ken Saro Wiwa - Ogoni Leader Focus of AI Action*

Amnesty International issued an "Fast Action", yesterday,
Wednesday June 30, 1993 concerning the Ogoni leader Mr Ken
Saro-Wiwa who is currently being held, without charge in Owelli,
Nigeria.

This is a special action that goes to all AI groups, worldwide,
assigned to West Africa. The Amnesty groups have started telexing
their concerns to General Ibrahim Babangida and Justice Minister
Mr Akpamgbo.

The action refers to the High Court Injunction of May 1993, which
called for Nigerian security forces to stop their harassment of
Ken Saro-Wiwa. The telexes call for the unconditional release of
Mr Saro-Wiwa.

Background material to the action refers to the two other MOSOP
leaders being held with Mr Saro-Wiwa.

Mr Saro-Wiwa, spokesman for MOSOP and Vice Chairperson of the UNPO
was arrested on Monday, June 21, by the Rivers State Security
Services. He is currently being held at the Owelli Central
