[ This article relayed from the Usenet "soc.culture.native" newsgroup ]

The following letter was sent to another conference I am
on, but I thought someone here could help this person, who is
looking for information on Algonquin traditions and spiritual
practices, and the native ways which have been kept from him.
Please reply directly to him. Thanks for your help.

Subject: To all

Hello. I am a student in Maine. I am searching for some advice on
the pursuit of my heritage. I was born of an Algonquin mother and
a German father, both being full-blooded and completely assimulated
to capitalism. Very recently, it was brought to my attention that
i hold something in my blood that i should not have unless i know
more about it. My native culture is null in my family and all my
known ancestors deny its complete existance (due to many years of
discrimination, so i have heard from my grandmother when i was young).

I am looking for the force in my back that drives me to my intentions.
It has driven me all my life and leads me here...to this request.
I don't know how to define it, but i know that i have not seen it
in my parents' christian faith.

I wish to learn more about who i am and what i have been pushed away
from all my life. I am very curious about anything anyone has to offer.
I am ambitous and very dedicated to research.
