RE: Jordan's post...Edward Lazarus wrote a book called "Black Hills,
White Justice" about the Black Hills Claim. E. Lazarus is the son of the
attorney, A. Lazarus, who litigated the claim. It's important to know
that, because (IMO), E. Lazarus has a very biased view on the entire
episode. The most blatant bias (again, IMO), is his opinion that the
Lakota a) were foolish to think that the government would ever return
*any* of the Black Hills and b) that A. Lazarus had full approval of the
Lakota when seeking a monetary settlement. DISCLAIMER: I am not Lakota,
nor even appreciably Native, so the above views are based upon many
different sources, but not first-hand experience. Despite the bias,
"Black Hills, White Justice" is still a valuable book, as it does depict
one side of the saga, and not the Federal Gov't side. Thanks, Lisa Hellwig
