request for info on language learning in the family

I am posting this request for a friend who doesn't have email.
She is Navajo, working on a doctoral dissertation on the teaching
of endangered languages in the family. She has been looking for
references on the factors that influence whether a parent teaches
the language to her/his children, and hasn't found much. She is
focussed on Navajo, in the hope that such a study will help the
community to find new ways to support the teaching/learning of
Navajo within the family. If anyone knows of any research-type
references on the learning of endangered languages within the
family, please let me know at the email address below, and I will
