Rainforest Action Network sent me a postcard to mail to Our Prez.
RAN is in the business of researching and publicizing threats to
temperate and tropical rainforests and their inhabitants, and offers
a monthly letter-writing appeal and bulletin.
There were also postcards for the Prime Ministers of Japan and Malaysia,
but they don't have their own newsgroups. :-)
The Penan are the indigenous people of the Sarawak forest.

Mr. President
The White House
Wash. DC 20500

Dear President Clinton,

The world's tropical rainforests are being destroyed - devastating
people as well as animal [sic] and plant species. If logging
continues at the present rate in the Sabah and Sarawak states of
Malaysia, all the Penan's forest will be gone by the year 2000. It
will mean cultural genocide for the native rainforest peoples.

I urge you to form a joint commission with Malaysia and Japan to
(1) institute and enforce a moratorium on ALL logging on disputed
tribal land and (2) to develop sustainable economic alternatives to
forest destruction in all three countries.

Sincerely,

<your name here>
