"Princess Pale Moon" has been a source of consternation for many in the DC
area. She is very close to Jack Kent Cooke, owner of the Washington Redskins
football
team. Whenever there are some rumblings of discontent over the team name, Jack
Kent Cook trots out Princess Pale Moon who quickly comes to his defense.
Princess Pale Moon gives interviews to the media and assures everyone that
NAs do not find the team name or logo offensive (of course, she is ALWAYS
decked out in full regalia and she speaks for "good Indians" as opposed to
those"bad Indians who want to cause trouble").

There was an article several years ago by the Washington Post questioning the
Princess's heritage, and her husband responded with the name of some tribe
no one heard of. The article concluded that she was about as white as they
come --- just a "wannabe" (but very successful as snowing the folks in these
parts).

I personally believe she has been able to perpetuate this myth because of
Cooke's backing (a symbiotic, parasitic relationship). There are many of us
who have been incensed with Cooke and and the Princess for years, but they
seem impervious to complaints. Washington DC loves their Redskins, and when
anyone brings up the issue, Cooke threatens to pull the team out of the area
and the issue dies. It has never ceased to amaze me that if team were named
the Whiteskins or the Blackskins, everyone would be up in arms, but somehow
the Redskins is not viewed as offensive.
