The Eastern Band of Ani-Tsalagi are also in a most interesting position.
Recall all the Easter lands were "taken" from the tribe in the forced
relocation. Those people that remained behind eventually bought the land
through a non-Indian who held it in trust (savages weren't allowed to
own land of course). When the trust holder died a suit went through the
court contesting his will which stated the land should go to the people
(his kids wanted the land).

Well, the Ani-Tsalagi won and then had the land. If I remember right the
area became federally recognized but the land is stilled owned by the
Eastern Ani-Tsalagi in common.
