One of the best books around like that is one edited by James Clifton, but
I forget the title and the book is in my office. It has around 15
biographies, and the theme is on culture change and its impact on the
people discussed. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll send you the
complete reference, but it should be listed in Books in Print.
