I recently received a letter in the mail asking for donations for the
"Wounded Knee School" in Manderson, South Dakota. This caught my
attention more than the usual junk mail as I spent a year not far
from there (in Pine Ridge) as a young child. I had some good
experiences there, in particular, I had a very good teacher there
(A Native American). I have always felt that I ought to return
the favor by doing something for the reservation, especially in the
area of education. I have been leery of doing so, because I know
that some of the charities purporting to do this in fact sent
much of their money out of the area (at least so my parents tell
me).
My question: Is the above named school what it purports to be?
Is it run by Native Americans?
I appreciate any help you can give.
