I have been working with members of the Naskapi Band of Quebec-Labrador on
various health issues, including the problem of suicide, and trying to
identify those most at risk to help design preventive programs. I have
been looking for comparative information and discovered that, except for
Arizona and New Mexico, no States keep separate mortality figures for
Indigenous groups. I have received figures from the Indian Health Service
that records Native suicides by county that, along with population figures
will allow some approximation of suicide rates by groups. But I'm not sure
of the reliabilty of these figures. Does anyone know of any other sources
for that information?
