Last year (1992) many residents of Wounded Knee objected to the
proposal for the following reasons.

It would take land from the families living in the town and area of
Wounded Knee.

It would transfer control of the land, water and minerals to the
federal government. It would also allow the Dept. of the Interior
to expand the boundaries of the park at it's discretion.

This basically gives the federal government, which does NOT have
a good record for dealing fairly, correctly with Indian nations,
NOR a good record for keeping agreements they've made, control over
another piece of Indian land.
