The best place to start is by looking at the paperback by Judge William
Canby, American Indian Law in a Nutshell; you can get it through a law
book store or in a library. For more detail, you can consult the treatise,
F. Cohen's Handbook of Federal Indian Law (1982 ed.) Short answer: yes
they do pay federal income tax; state tax much more complicated, depends on
a lot of factors.
