S. Watson,
This is in reply to your original request reguarding the
Mississippi Choctaw. I tried to send it to you
using your E-Mail address but apparently I didn't have it
correct. Sorry! But here goes...A good place to begin
researching your Native American roots is at the National
Archives of the United States. I cannot tell from your
address where you are located but, if you will send me
your geographic address, I will let you know where the
nearest regional branch of the National Archives is
located. There are two microfilm publications which will
be of great help to you. The first is: microfilm
publication #T625-The 1920 Federal Population Census. This
listed the race of individuals and it is indexed by name
of individual so you will be able to look up your
grandmother in the place where she would be living in 1920.
The second is: microfilm publication #M595-Indian Census
Rolls 1885-1940. You will need to look at roll #41 which
is the roll that covers the Choctaw (Mississippi). I
will also be happy to send by mail some pamphlets which
might be of interest to you, if you provide me with
your geographic address.
