I (with a quick cursory check) haven't found anything on Churchill, but I
did find a couple of mini-bios that call Dorris Modoc. The present day Modocs
are in Oklahoma (Miami) but in the time of the Modoc War (1872?) they were up
in northern California and southern Oregon. Something I read sounded as though
the survivors of the war moved to Oregon's Klamath reservation. Beyond that
I'm stymied until I get out of my office...

I also read that Dorris was born in Louisville KY, maybe birth records exist.
