Surrounded by houses now.
The land cries out for healing.
A meeting place of the tribes,
A living country of coastal peoples
A burial ground for those whose went before.
A little remaining wetland
A last refuge for small life forms.
After much abuse, the planners say
"It is less than pristine, anyway."
"I'll tell you what" they say, "Let's cover it in houses."
"Let's turn its creeks into urban drains."
They do not know that water is life itself.
Oh, you who have come from far places, with your wisdom,
can you spare a little bit of healing
for this special place?
