Extract (page 3) from Special Gazette of the Commonwealth of
Australia, publishing the formal assent to the Native Title
Act. Note that section 1 and 2 of that Act refer merely to
the title and commencement provisions. Part 10 of the Act
refers to the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
Land Fund.
Those parts of the act which extinguish native title,
irrespective of degree of inconsistency, in relation to
leasehold land (Sections 14, 15(1)(a) and Section 229) became
law on 1 January 1994. Note also that section 16(b) excludes
native title rights and interests from the provisions to
preserve conditions.
The Native Title Act 1993 No. 110 of 1993 also records that it
was assented to on 24 December 1993.
