TITLE: Special Collections Librarian
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: FY, tenure track, Assistant or Associate Professor
AVAILABLE DATE: July 1, 1994
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Responsible for the oversight, organization,
arrangement, description, security and preservation of the materials in
Special Collections and University Archives. These collections include books,
manuscripts, architectural drawings, maps, photographs and realia relating to
the history of Montana, Yellowstone National Park, the West, and Native
Americans. Provides access to and reference service in these collections for
students, faculty, and other researchers; involved in grant proposal
preparation and fundraising for special projects; actively acquires additions
for the collections; and participates in the library instruction program.
Reports to the Head of Public Services.
Library faculty participate in library and university governance committees
and must meet expectations for service, professional activity, and research &
creativity for promotion and tenure.
DESCRIPTION OF MSU & BOZEMAN: Montana State University, the state's land grant
institution, is located in the magnificent Gallatin Valley in southwestern
Montana 90 miles north of Yellowstone National Park. The university has an
enrollment exceeding 10,700 and offers undergraduate degrees in 47 fields and
graduate degrees in 38 fields with an emphasis in science and technology. The
Libraries' collection numbers more than 500,000 volumes and one million+
microforms and is staffed by 20 faculty FTE, 1 professional, and 34 classified
FTE.
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED - MLS from an ALA accredited institution; a second graduate degree;
appropriate experience in special collections environment; demonstrated
ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. The successful
candidate will demonstrate the ability to relate to various constituents,
including co-workers, administrators, patrons, and donors in an academic
environment.
PREFERRED - Training or experience in archival organization and management,
preservation, or records management; experience in computer applications in
libraries; successful experience in grant writing/fundraising.
SALARY: $35,000 minimum
