I have been a lurker on this list for a while. As a neophyte to
indigenous issues, I didn't feel there was anything particularly
constructive I could add, so I set out merely to learn and listen. But I
find I must say something about this flap about Ward Churchill and Glenn
Morris, if only to get it off my chest.

I have met and listened to Glenn Morris, am close acquaintances with Dr.
Marc Sills who works with Mr. Morris at Univ. of Colo at Denver's Fourth
World Center, and am studying under one of Mr. Morris's close colleagues.
I know and have spoken with his other colleagues at UCD's political
science department. I have the highest personal respect for those people
and trust their judgment of character. This is nothing, though, cmpared
to the integrity Mr. Morris projects in his bearing and speech (what I've
witnessed).

Thus, I was caught quite off guard last night when the message from Mr.
Bellecourt came across Nativenet. I have since satisfied myself that the
message bears the stamp of political infighting with a slanderous
flavor.

It is not my intention in this first ever post to Nativenet to start or
become engaged in any kind of flame war (especially in view of the fact
that Nativenet consistently is free of that).

It *IS* my intention, however, to voice my support for a man who has
helped (with Dr. Sills) inspire me (white male anglo) with the importance
of indigenous rights and politics in north america.

There.

PS. I don't know what happened at the press conference referred to in
Bellecourt's message, but I would very much like to hear the other
side...I suspect it's mighty different.
