- the Teme-Augama Anishnabai are not a "Tribe"
- the Teme Augama Anishnabai is a positive example of self-
determination - the TAA themselves define and determine who is TAA,
not the Indian Act or some Indian agent who decided that someone
didn't look or act "Indian enough"; the TAA was created by the
Anishnabeg people of Temagami, or n'Daki Menan, as the homeland is
called (meaning "our land", Teme Augama Anishnabai meaning "the
deep water people") with the agreement and support of the status
and non-status people, and designated as negotiators for the
Temagami Indian Band by the Temagami Indian Band
- in saying "the Temagami First Nation (the former Temagami Indian
Nation)" Arnie is trying to say "the former Temagami Indian Band",
even though it still _is_ the Temagami Indian Band, according to
itself and the province and Canada; Arnie (the author) seems to
clarify to create confusion, rather than to eliminate it
-at the TAA assembly March 19-20 it was agreed that there would be
a second vote, including a mail-in ballot, for the 2nd weekend in
April
- the funding for negotiation of the settlement went for salaries
and the purchase of Manito Lodge, which was used as offices and
meeting space, and was also used for lawyers, consultants, travel,
communication, newsletters, etc.
