Among the most important questions I feel we have to answer at the
outset is how to design and manage such projects. I feel that we
should probably identify and invite teachers and elders from various
communities of indigenous peoples to take part in the initial planning,
to ensure that our results are as culturally sensitive as possible, and
so that the projects serve the Native communities whose students will
be involved.
Therefore, I would like to invite recommendations for advisors for this
"electronic outreach" project (we haven't decided on a formal name for
it yet), which can either be made to me (gst@gnosys.svle.ma.us) or to
the NAT-EDU list (nat-edu@gnosys.svle.ma.us). I will set the return
address for the message containing this article so that you can simply
reply to it to post an article to NAT-EDU, which you can do whether or
not you are currently a subscriber to that list.
If you would like to join NAT-EDU, just send a message to the address
"listserv@indycms.iupui.edu" containing the text:
subscribe nat-edu Your Name
where "Your Name" is replaced by your first and last names (middle
name optional). Please note that NAT-EDU is handled on a different
machine than the other NativeNet lists (which are all based at TAMVM1).
If you would like to get a copy of the articles written on this subject
thus far, send a message to the same address (listserv@indycms.iupui.edu)
containing:
// job echo=no
database search dd=rules
//rules dd *
select 'electronic outreach' or 'first people' in nat-edu since 19 april
print all
/*
If you want to subscribe at the same time, you can stick your "subscribe"
request into this message immediately following the "// job" line. In
any case, make sure there is at least one space following the "//" in the
"// job" line, and *no* spaces follwing the "//" in the "//rules" line.
Let me know if you have any problems with any of these instructions.
Gary
