EcoNet is pleased to announce a computer networking project addressing
environmental issues facing people and communities of color in the United
States. The EcoJustice Network calls on organizations involved in the
environmental justice movement to become involved in this project. The
EcoJustice Network builds on the existing resources of EcoNet, the global
environmental non-profit computer network.

The EcoJustice Network on EcoNet currently provides access to:

o an on-line community of over 5,000 subscribers in the environmental
field;

o the electronic edition of Dr. Robert Bullard's People of Color
Environmental Groups Directory;

o a public electronic conference (message area) called ENV.JUSTICE
focused specifically on environmental justice issues;

o over 500 other electronic conferences provided by EcoNet, PeaceNet,
ConflictNet and LaborNet;

o private electronic mailbox service with complete e-mail access to the
Internet;

o full outgoing Internet services such as Gopher, Telnet, FTP;

o the Environmental Research Foundation's toxics & hazardous waste
RACHEL news service;

o the information services provided by the U.S. EPA and the National
Institute of Environmental Health Services (via Internet Gopher);

o the Global Action & Information Network's US House and Senate legislation
tracking service;

o Greenpeace's daily environmental headlines;

o a public access Internet Gopher dedicated to environmental justice
issues. The EcoJustice Network Gopher is at <gopher.econet.apc.org>
under "Environment" then "EcoJustice Network".

The EcoJustice Network on EcoNet aims to build the following resources:

o resources on health research and environmental justice issues;

o government health and toxics information related to Superfund cleanups,
Toxics Release Information emissions, and Centers for Disease Control
data;

o electronic editions of newsletters, fact sheets and action alerts from
organizations involved in the environmental justice movement;

o private message areas to provide one of the few national discussion
forums for the environmental justice movement--a chance to shape the
direction of the movement, and to allow coordination of regional network
activity;

o a scholarship fund for grassroots organizations to use this new
technology;

o a national training program to assist environmental justice activists and
people of color within the environmental movement to use computer
networks.
