This presentation by Dr. Jacobs will focus on a review of the
creation of the Office of Alternative Medicine at the National
Institutes of Health and the response from the professional
community to its creation. He will also discuss the scope of
activities associated with alternative medicine as well as the
approach to developing a research agenda in alternative medicine
by the NIH. He will also provide information on research
supported by the various institutes of the NIH that might be
considered alternative medicine. Additionally, he will discuss
some issues and problems associated with doing research on various
alternative clinical modalities.
