My numerous visits to libraries in Yucatan, Chiapas, Quintana Roo, and
Tabasco have impressed upon me the need to support the thirst for
information extant throughout this region. The libraries I visited were
always full of patrons eager to use the scant and incomplete collections
of supporting materials available to them. For several years I have
attempted to route excess books and journals to the region, but something
has always interferred with making these items available to Mexican
libraries. Through a volunteer organization in California, I have located
an agricultural university in Oaxaca interested in receiving the scientific
and technical materials I can make available. I can provide two or three
tons of information covering agriculture, chemistry, mining, chemical
processing, fertilizer development and manufacture, as well as basic
reference materials. I must regularly discard materials because no
workable method of transferring these materials is in place and I lack
adequate space to store all the materials I can obtain.
I request your assistance in the development of some exchange vehicle to
cover the shipment of these materials to Oaxaca. I am willing to
document and prepare these materials for shipment, but need help in
actually routing these items to Mexico. The university in Oaxaca has
examined the list of materials which are available, and is anxious to
receive these donations.
Please contact me directly if you are aware of any individual, group, or
organization able to support the transfer of technical materials to Mexico.
With so much information at our disposal in the U.S., we often forget
that our good fortune is not always shared by our American neighbors.
Thanks for your consideration of this request, and for your help.

Dear Gary Williams,
I have a similar problem with books that I would like to send to a
research center in Merida, Yucatan concerning anthropology and
environmental issues. If you get a lead on a way to do this, would you
please let me know? Thanks.
