It's a bit tough to suggest literature without more specfic knowledge of
your students research interests and what she has already read.

Some good places to start would be:

The Question of the Commons: The Culture and Ecology of Communal Resources
edited by Bonnie McCay and James Acheson 1987

and

Common Property Resources, Ecology and Community Based Sustainable Developemnt
edited by Fikret Berkes 1989

both these books are collections of papers covering a wide variety of
common common property regimes most of which are managed by indigenous
people. Your student will likely find several articles of interest in
these books or at least the books' bibliographies should be able to point
her towards other sources.

A more theoeretical book, on the analysis of common property regimes is

Governing the Commons: the Evolution of Instituions for Collective Action
by Elinor Ostrom 1990

Hope these references are of some help.
