After 15 hours and three ballots, Ovide Mercredi, a Cree from Manitoba, was
re-elected by three votes over the required 60 percent. (He received 53.93%
on ballot one and 59.92% on ballot two.) Wally McKay, Sachigo Lake First
Nation, Ontario, came in second.
