I'd also like to extend a "herzliche Willkommen" to Jay and thank Gary.
I've learned an immense amount in the time I've been on these lists -
about the world and myself - and I'm very thankful to the people who do
so much work "behind the scenes".

I try to carry the news and views expressed here out among the people I
encounter, so that those who aren't "directly involved" may also be
influenced to think beyond their own small lives, to think of the far-
reaching impact of their lifestyle on indigenous peoples - any change
begins small. I hope that serves as encouragement and thanks!

As for the conflicts, that's where one can learn to extend one's
worldview, where one can see the differences that underly the problems
we face. The challenge is to try not to let things become so personal
that the communication bogs down, to remember that when there's a
difference of opinion, there exists the opportunity to learn, and that
there often isn't one absolute answer.
