Darrel Whitney and anyone else interested,
This is regarding your inquiry on August 3 about the Iowa
Half Breed Tract. There are papers in the National Archives
which might assist you in your search. Yes, there was a
half-breed tract, in fact, there were two in Iowa. They
were the Sax and Fox and the Sioux tracts. The
rritorial Papers of the United States the Territory of
Iowa, 1838-1846, is National Archives microfilm publication
#M325. Within it the cartographic records will let you
know exactly where the half-breed tracts were located and
the records of the Bureau of Land Management will also
probably help you. If you could let me know where you
live geographically, I would be better able to help you
obtain access to this microfilm.
