According to the report, American journalist and former ABC
news producer Jon Entine spent the better part of last year
working on a piece published Sept. 1 in _Business Ethics_
(situated in Minneapolis) that assails the gap between The Body
Shop's proclaimed philosophy and its practices.
Among the issues Entine raises are "'outdated, off-the-shelf
product formulas filled with unreliable petrochemicals'," problems
with quality control, and the following: "...despite...publicity
about its efforts to develop suppliers among native people in
developing countries, only a fraction of the company's purchases
actually come through its 'Trade Not Aid' program..."
The article goes on to comment that The Body Shop has called
Entine's work "'recycled rubbish'" and that the company is
"'reviewing' its legal options in response to the article.
