The power of the Census data is unbelieveable and dangerous for novice users.
Originally, I meant to ask the originator of the Fed Rez/TL list if the
numbers came from the 1990 census or the BIA. That was misleading. Now, I
realize more than the list was misleading...
I work at the Census. As a geographer working with American Indian tribes
and Alaska Natives to delineate geography for decennial census data
presentation, the Federal tribes in Oklahoma are in a unique situation. I
assure you...we had a great opportunity working with the Seminoles, Quapaws,
and 34 plus other tribes in the State of Oklahoma. Nationwide, we worked
with 500 plus American Indian tribal and Alaska Native representatives. As a
statistician, I assisted in the review of tribal write-in entries from the
1990 census questionnaries. As you know, the Census has only released tribe
data for the 25 largest tribes in the nation. However, more detailed tribe
data will be released shortly. If you have questions, drop a note. If I
can't answer your questions, I will get you in touch with some expert who can
help.
