We are boycotting the Federal Environmental Review Panel hearings on
military flight training activities over our homeland because they are
unfair and partial to the Department of National Defence (DND). We are
calling on the Minister of the Environment and Deputy Prime Minister,
Shelia Copps, Prime Minister Chr=E9tien, and Indian Affairs Minister Irwin
t= o end the hearings, stop the flights and work with us to establish a
new process that is fair and respects our rights.
Prior to boycotting the hearings, we had extensive correspondence with the
Panel outlining our concerns and inviting their positive response so that
we could participate in the hearings. The Panel's negative response to our
concerns precipitated our decision-we had no choice but to boycott the
hearing process. We sent copies of our letters to the Panel to Environment
Minister Copps, Prime Minister Chr=E9tien, and Indian Affairs Minister Irwin=
