Looking at the way networking through the Internet is likely to develop over
the next 20 years it seems to me that cheap 'radio' modems and satellite
links will allow more and more indigenous peoples in developing countries to
be attracted or persuaded to use networking as a way of organising
themselves and to express their concerns.
I can see many advantages to this, but I can see that there is another side
of the story too.
May I ask for opinions from readers of NATIVE-L? Can email exchanges, on
balance, provide a means of empowerment? Or is it just another way for
developed countries to push their technology and values onto older and more
stable societies?
