I apprecaited the full report so that we all have the opportunity to put the
final outcome in its full context. Overall it seems to have brought about a
good education for all of the participants including those of us who have
followed it here on the net.
Since I work with an institution that focuses on contemporary societies
throughout the world I was most interested in David's comment that, "a large
minority carried their reports...to the present. It seems this is the greatest
lack in Native American studies, especially in schools - how traditional life
can be presented along with the contemporary life of the people. We have
recently developed a small, temporary exhibit (my plans are to expand this into
a full time exhibit in our long range plans) called First Americans Today. The
nucleus of the exhibit is a video called First Texans. This video was
recommended by Rod Pistokache, Choctaw when he visited with us and we discussed
the exhibit. It presents a good blend of traditional life and contemporary
life. If anyone is interested in acquiring a copy I would be happy to pass the
address on to you. You can reach me at the address below.
